Atlanta, GA
This converted warehouse at Armour Yards was given new life as an office building. As with many former industrial properties, providing adequate parking for any new use was a design challenge. SDA turned this into a prime opportunity by creating a new 2nd floor inside the warehouse’s volume, creating a steel “ship in a bottle” that gives light and views to new occupants while allowing vehicles to circulate and park in the building but relegating them to the space below.
The loading dock was transformed into an entry with a cafe-style common area and portions of the central roof were permanently removed to ensure natural light reaches every newly-created space. Existing materials were reclaimed where possible, such as the steel fire doors that were re-purposed as bathroom wall cladding.
