Decatur, GA
The LEED Platinum rehabilitation of this 1950s firehouse included a building addition with MEP & technological systems upgrades for modern firefighting, plus design for a regional emergency management center.
Decatur Fire Station No. 1 was built in 1956 in the International Style. SDA adapted the building for contemporary use while preserving its 50s modern aesthetic. A major component of the renovation was repurposing the living spaces for co-ed use, including conversion of the original communal dormitory and restrooms into private sleeping pods and bathrooms.
Sustainable technologies include high-efficiency equipment, a green roof garden, geothermal heat pump system, solar water heating, and reclamation of rainwater and greywater.
