Augusta, GA
Originally constructed in 1914 as a girls’ boarding school, these two historic buildings also briefly operated as a hotel before being converted to a hospital for soldiers injured during World War I. With SDA’s help, the former Lenwood Hospital is now being converted into affordable apartments for the Augusta Veterans Administration. New amenities will include a community room that allows residents to work, study, and socialize together, as well as an activity center, fitness room, and an outdoor gazebo. Funding relies on both Historic Tax Credits and Low Income Housing Tax Credits.
