Marchon

Atlanta, GA

Located adjacent to the King Memorial MARTA Station and Historic Oakland Cemetery, between the in-town Atlanta arteries of DeKalb Avenue and Memorial Drive and along the planned Memorial Greenway, Marchon connects its residents to their city, their neighborhood, and each other.

The building’s mass is broken into blocks that preserve views to and between the gold dome of the Georgia State Capitol and the Oakland Cemetery Bell Tower, creating linear courtyards that continue the local street rhythm.  These green promenades are home to residential amenities and gathering spaces and traversed by open-air bridges reminiscent of the adjacent train tracks and the neighborhood’s industrial past.

Units are cantilevered in a pixelated pattern to create visual interest and greater privacy at individual balconies while serving as a subtle memory of the original design concept, which was to be the largest modular housing development in the southeastern US.

The street level is activated by retail space as well as a leasing office and gym, while the roof level features a club room and deck with a sweeping city panorama from Downtown to Midtown.  Parking is located discreetly along the MARTA and rail lines, enclosed by units and invisible at the sidewalk yet still functioning as a noise buffer for residents.
