Fortunately for Smith Dalia, returning Decatur native Moira Schneider is revisiting her roots, bringing a well-rounded practice focus and skill not only for architecture, but as a collaborator. After undergrad at Georgia Tech and a graduate degree from the University of Cincinnati, Moira honed her craft at architecture firms in Cincinnati, San Francisco, Asheville and Atlanta. Eventually, the rising tide of in-town development and Atlanta’s optimism for change lured this designer homeward. Moira would like to participate in Atlanta’s metamorphosis into a dense, well-connected city where she could live…dare we even say it? —without a car.
Exhibiting a love of buildings from an early age, Moira was intrigued by the interplay of light and space, and materials that age gracefully. She was the kind of teenager who toured buildings on open-house Sundays just to see their interiors. These early pursuits sparked a practice focus that favors historic preservation/adaptive use, and residential architecture including multi-family. Moira also found herself enjoying the challenge of big-picture project management and the careful orchestration of small details with large moving parts. A fitting addition at SDA, Moira excels at team projects, coordination and communication.
