Piedmont Park Restorations

Atlanta, GA

Continuing for nearly two decades, the Piedmont Park Conservancy has contracted SDA to undertake restoration of the Park’s many historic buildings along with the design of various new structures.

Masterplanned 100 years earlier by the sons of Frederick Law Olmsted of Central Park fame, Piedmont Park had fallen short of its potential as a world-class urban green space. Its distinguished heritage mandated a sensitive historic rehabilitation with a practical edge and community-appropriate design.

SDA began by assisting the nascent Conservancy with strategies for generating income, renovating Magnolia Hall, which became a popular venue and enabled further improvements. Tom Dalia worked with a metal artisan to design the Park’s signature gates, using native plant cutouts which became motifs throughout the Park. In 2008 SDA provided assistance on a Kregse Foundation grant, ensuring future sustainable guidelines for future Park developments.
